Joseph Fullum Obituary

Mr. Joseph F. Fullum, 84, of West Springfield MA and formerly of Arlington MA passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday (April 1, 2022) after a period of declining health.

 

Joseph was born in Milford MA, the son of the late Albert and the late Anna (Scully) Fullum. He was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1954. He then obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Boston College and a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Simmons College.

 

Joseph was a Korean Conflict veteran having served in the US Air Force from 1954 to 1958. He had been employed as a librarian for the City of Boston at the Boston Public Library for over forty years.

 

Joseph was passionate about his job at the Boston Public Library and enjoyed visiting many other libraries thru his travels across this country. He enjoyed reading and the city life & culture. He was an avid Boston sports fan and very proud of his Irish heritage.

 

Uncle Joe was first and foremost a “true gentleman”. Respected by all who were privileged to know him. It was not uncommon at any and all family gatherings or otherwise, for everyone to gravitate to him for conversation, advice and direction in their lives. He was known for his “subtle sense of humor”.

 

Joseph is survived by his sister: Elizabeth Cunningham of West Springfield MA; his nephews: Christopher Cunningham and his wife Debra of West Springfield MA, John Cunningham of Portland OR, Daniel Cunningham of Springfield MA and his girlfriend Danielle of NJ; and James Cunningham of Springfield MA.

 

Joseph is also survived by his only niece & only goddaughter: Mary Elizabeth Fullum of Milford MA and his nephews Timothy Fullum  and partner Patricia Golemme of Hopedale MA, Thomas Fullum of Milford MA, Patrick Fullum and his wife Marie of Milford MA and James Fullum and his wife Krista of Warner NH; he also leaves behind, too many to list, grandnieces & grandnephews, great grandnieces & great grandnephews and a new great great grandnephew.

 

Joseph was the brother of the late James Fullum; brother-in-law of the late Philomena Fullum and the late John Cunningham; and the uncle of the late Kathleen Cunningham.

 

His funeral will be held Wednesday (April 6th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12PM in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Milford MA. A visiting hour will be held Wednesday (April 6th) from 10:30am to 11:30am at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, prior to his Funeral Mass.
