Joseph Francis Niro

Mr. Joseph F. Niro, 83, of Milford MA, died unexpectedly on Tuesday (January 26, 2021) at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Brenda (Cahill) Niro.

Joseph was born in Milford MA, the son of the late Philip F. and the late Jennie J. (Cadlick) Niro. He was a graduate of Milford High School, Class of 1955. He then attended the Worcester Trade School and also participated in the Trainee Program at the former Draper Corporation in Hopedale MA.

As a young man Joseph worked with his uncle, Matthew Rosacci, and his brother, Philip’Skipper” Niro building houses, including his own residence on Manella Avenue. Joseph then began his thirty-eight year career as a member of the Milford Fire Department, during which time he served as the fire alarm superintendent for ten years. Joseph also served the Town of Milford as a member of the Board of Assessors for forty-one years, presently serving as Chairman.

Joseph was a lifelong resident of Milford and a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He also volunteered as a baseball, football & hockey youth coach while his sons were young athletes. Joseph was also a longtime member of the Milford Firefighters Association and a longtime town meeting member.

Along with his beloved wife of sixty-one years and companion of sixty-seven years, he is survived by his 5 sons: Jeffrey Niro and his wife Donna of Milford MA, Brian Niro and his wife Laurie of Mendon MA, Gregg Niro and his wife Vicki of Dudley MA, Christopher Niro and his wife Denise of Tallahassee FL and Douglas Niro of Bellingham MA;

Also14 Grandchildren: Carissa Niro and her fiancé Steve Limongelli, Arianna Niro, Michaella Niro, John Niro, Mallorie Niro and her fiancé Tony Portillo, Matt Niro and his wife Meghan,Ben Niro and his fiancé Lauren Cartier, Ian Wilson and his wife Jess, Scott Niro, Ashley Niro,CaityBell and her husband Jason,Allessa Niro, Aushtyn Niro and Aundrue Niro;    7 Great Grandchildren: Nick Niro, JJ Niro, Ollie Wilson, AuroraWilson, Charlie Bell, Maci Bell and Theo Bell;

Also 2 sisters-in-law: Lydia Niro of Milford MA and Eleanor Niro of Uxbridge MA; and several nieces & nephews.

Joseph was the father of the late Scott J. Niro; the grandfather of the late Cary Wilson; the brother of the late Philip Niro Jr., the late Enrico Niro, the late Larry Niro and the late Mary Rei; and the uncle of the late JanMarie (Rei) Neuding.

Relatives & friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Monday (February 1st) at 10am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church (UPPER CHURCH), 7 East Main Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford MA. A visiting hour will be held Monday (February 1st) from 8:45am to 9:45am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, prior to his Funeral Mass. Social distancing protocols & use of face masks will be required for all facets of the funeral services.
