Joseph Tomaski Obituary

Mr. Joseph R. Tomaski, 78, of Milford MA died Sunday (March 31, 2024) at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Marie C.(Santore)Tomaski.

 

Joseph was born in Boston MA, the son of the late John F. Tomaski and the late Eleanor M. (Sampson) Tomaski. He attended St. Jean the Evangelist and Our Lady Help of Christians parochial schools as a young boy, and was a graduate of Newton-North High School, Class of 1964. He also attended Newton Junior College and Northeastern University.

Joseph was a proud US Navy veteran, having served from 1967 to 1970.He was born & raised in Newton MA, and following his marriage to Marie in 1971, they resided in Woburn MA, Arlington MA, Newton MA and have been residents of Milford MA since 1974.

 

Joseph was first employed as a young man as the manager of the Brigham’s Ice Cream Parlor in Winchester MA, Burlington MA and Natick MA. He later worked as general manager at Ground Round Restaurant in Framingham MA and Worcester MA. Following that he was employed as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 28 years, working out of the Hopkinton MA post office. Most recently he had been employed at the Big Y Supermarket in Milford MA, working in the seafood department.

 

 Joseph had been a longtime active communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Milford, where he volunteered as a Religious Education teacher, a church lector, a Eucharistic minister and also served on the parish Family Life Committee where he cooked for many of their porcketta & spaghetti dinners. His Catholic faith, as well as his family, was very important to Joseph.

 

Joseph was also a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus for 53 years, serving on the Valencia Council #80 in Milford MA for 50 years. He served in all official positions and as Grand Knight of the Council several times. He also had served as District Deputy of the Knights of Columbus, and numerous other committees.

 

Joseph enjoyed fishing with his father & his brothers as a younger man. He was an avid golfer; loved to play cribbage; and was an avid reader. He also was a history buff, and loved anything to do with documentaries, programs & articles about WW II. But his favorite past time was spending time with his beloved family members.

 

Along with his beloved wife of 52 years, he is survived by his 3 children: Joseph Tomaski and his husband Jared of Worcester MA, Andrew Tomaski of Uxbridge MA and Christina Tomaski of Milford MA; his 2 brothers: John Tomaski and his wife Patricia of Natick MA and Jude Tomaski and his wife Nancy of Gainesville FL; also many loving nieces, nephews & cousins.

 

His funeral will be held Friday (April 5th) at 10am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church (UPPER CHURCH), 7 East Main Street, Milford MA. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be held Thursday (April 4th) from 4pm to 7pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Legacy of Faith Fund, c/o Sacred Heart Rectory, 5 East Main Street, Milford MA or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
