Kathryn Mastroianni Obituary

Kathryn L. “Kate” Mastroianni, 64, of Milford, MA died unexpectedly on Monday morning (March 13, 2023) at the Milford Regional Medical Center.  She was born in Milford, the daughter of the late Dr. Nicholas A. Mastroianni and the late Mary K. (Connolly) Mastroianni.

The birth of Kate and her twin brother Paul brought about many changes in the Mastroianni family.  Perhaps the most significant, other than 3 hour round the clock feedings—was the need for more space and the subsequent move to The Crossways in Hopedale.  The high point of every year was summer at New Silver Beach where she enjoyed long days at the beach, lots of family and plenty of s’mores.

She graduated as salutatorian of Hopedale High School Class of 1976 then went on to Wellesley College where she earned her degree in Archaeology and Greek.  After college she worked for several companies in the Boston area as a “troubleshooter” and computer data analyst.

Kate became a world traveler at an early age globetrotting with her mother.  She loved fine arts, concerts, theatre of any type, but especially musicals.

When Kate returned to Milford to live she decided it was time to enter the political arena.  She was elected to the Board of Library Trustees and later served as a town meeting member.  She was a proud member of the Democratic Town Committee and was a founder of the local branch of Drinking Liberally.  She loved working at the polls as another opportunity to serve her community and visit with voters and fellow poll workers.

Kate was gregarious—she loved to chat and always wanted to know what was happening in the lives of friends and family, and working at Oliva’s gave her an opportunity to do just that.  Her philosophy was based on a quote by William Butler Yeats, “There are no strangers here; only friends you haven’t yet met”.  She was intellectually curious and enjoyed sharing interesting information, puns, cartoons and recipes with her huge circle of friends.  She was a voracious reader and was always exchanging book titles with like-minded friends.  She was extremely dedicated to her family and always made the effort to connect with and care for others.  She was kind, generous, thoughtful and always engaged with her family and friends.

Kate was the sister of Mary E. and her husband Dr. Samuel Calagione of Florida and Maine, Claudia M. and her husband John Sweeney of Milford. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Mary Ann Mastroianni and Charlotte Mastroianni and many cousins.

Kate had a special relationship with each one of her nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.  She was involved in their lives and took great pride in their accomplishments. She will be greatly missed by:  Myka Calagione, her husband Nigel Musgrove and their children Henry and Luciana; Samuel Calagione III, his wife Mariah and their children Samuel IV and Grier; Christa, her husband Brendon Donnellan and their sons, Blake and Luke; Claudia Mastroianni, her wife Regis Donovan and David Mastroianni;    Tara Sweeney, her husband Atty. Richard Bosch and Erin Sweeney; Andréa Mastroianni, her partner Joel Szlosek and Mia Mastroianni; Sarah Mary Doherty Amato, her husband Dr. Christopher Amato and their children Edward Patrick (Teddy), Lowell and Emilia.

Kate was preceded in death by her siblings Dr. Nicholas A. Mastroianni Jr., Ralph P. Mastroianni, Roberta Mastroianni, and Paul Mastroianni.
