Mr. Kenneth S. Schoenberg, 73, of Milford MA died Wednesday (July 19, 2023) at the Neurocritical Intensive Care Unit at UMASS-Memorial Medical Center in Worcester MA surrounded by his loving family after sustaining a fall resulting in severe traumatic brain injury. He was the beloved husband of Susan M. (Morin) Schoenberg for over 51 years.
Born in Queens NY, he was the son of the late Philip Schoenberg and the late Eleanor (Stein) Schoenberg, and was raised in Waterbury CT. He attended St. Anselm’s College, graduating in 1971 with a degree in Mathematics. It was here that he met the love of his life, Susan. They married and resided in Milford for the entirety of their marriage.
Ken was the manager of the Midtown Raquetball Club, located in Milford, for many years. He also was a fitness professional at ForeCourt Racquet and Fitness Club in Cumberland RI. His passion was helping to develop young athletes, and he coached and umpired/officiated in youth sports for over 25 years.
Ken was actively involved in the MA Baseball Umpires Association, the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO) and was a MA field hockey official.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Amy Schoenberg and her partner, Kristin Mohr of Bellingham MA; his son, Eric Schoenberg and his wife Megean, and their three children, Jacob, Samuel and Grace of Holliston MA; his sister, Judi Schoenberg of Framingham MA; his father-in-law, Clarence Morin of Milford MA; his sisters-in-law: Nancy Morin and Barbara (Morin) Savage and her husband Stephen Savage of Milford MA; along with his many nieces & nephews.
Ken was happiest spending time with his family. He loved watching his three grandchildren play baseball and softball and was an avid spectator at all their games. He was a trivia master, devising “questions of the day” to try to stump his grandchildren.
Ken was the family chef, cooking up a storm for holidays and to entertain friends. He loved spending time with his wife in Florida during the winter months, soaking in the sunshine, golfing with his friends, and embarking on last minute adventures.
Ken will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his love of sports, and his absolute passion for all things hot dogs !
His family would like to thank the amazing staff at the Neurocritical Care Unit at UMASS-Memorial Medical Center for their outstanding, compassionate care during his final days.
In accordance with his wishes cremation will take place. Relatives & friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on SATURDAY (July 29th) at 12 NOON at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. There are no visiting hours.
