Obituary

 

The family of Lawrence L. Del Vecchio of Milford, MA announce his passing.  Larry died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on September 16th .  He lived a long, full, and blessed life with much to celebrate in his ninety-six years.

 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Regina M. (Byrne) Del Vecchio and their six children: David M. Del Vecchio, M.D. and his wife Wendy (Patston) of Chesapeake, VA; Stephen L. Del Vecchio and his wife Marcia (Colelli) of Dennis, MA; Mary Ellen (Del Vecchio) Zarba and her husband Paul of Derry, NH; Daniel J. Del Vecchio and his wife Meredith (Ragsdale) of North Grafton, MA; Gregory M. Del Vecchio and his wife Sarah (Redfield) of Ojai, CA; and Peter A. Beale-Del Vecchio and his wife Jacqueline (Beale) of Chicago, IL. Larry was also the proud grandfather of sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

 

He also leaves a sister, Mary DiGirolamo, sisters-in-law Eileen (Kirby) Del Vecchio, Margaret (Byrne) Cozzens, Anne Marie (Byrne) Wiley, brother-in-law Kenneth Wiley, and a large extended family, including many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brother James M. Del Vecchio, sisters-in-law Mary Ruth (Byrne) Neilan and Pauline (Shanahan) Byrne, and brothers-in-law Thomas J. Byrne, Joseph Cozzens, and Phillip Neilan.

 

Lawrence was born in Milford, MA the son of Lawrence C. and Grace (Fairbanks) Del Vecchio.  He graduated from Milford High School, Class of 1944, and from the College of the Holy Cross in 1950.

 

Lawrence was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy having served aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Kearsarge.

 

He was a Certified Public Accountant and practiced in Milford from 1950 until retiring at age ninety.  Lawrence was well liked and respected by his many clients over his sixty-seven-year career. Lawrence was elected Town Treasurer in 1961, serving in the role until 1969, and Trustee of the former Milford Savings Bank.  As an entrepreneur, he was a co-founder and partner for a number of years with his brother, Jim,in several businesses – Larry’s Package Store (named for their father), E-Z Way Laundry, and E-Z Way Car Wash.

 

Lawrence was a man of deep faith, active in his parish of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church serving as a Minister of the Eucharist and as a member of the Finance Committee.  Larry also served for many years as Treasurer of Troop II (Milford), Boys Scouts of America.

 

Lawrence was a humble man of few words who enjoyed photography, woodworking, gardening, swimming, reading, and most of all family gatherings.

 

His funeral will be held Wednesday (September 20th) at 10am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford, MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 7 East Main Street, Milford, MA. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday (September 19th) from 5pm to 7pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home.
