Mr. Leo P. Hughes, 79, of Milford MA, died Sunday (June 18, 2023) at his residence after an illness. He was the beloved husband of Elaine M. (Flaherty) Hughes.
Leo was born in Boston MA, the son of the late Leo Hughes and the late Frances (McDonald) Hughes. He was a graduate of Boston public schools.
Leo was a longtime employee of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, serving as manager of the printing department for the State. He was also a veteran of the Massachusetts Army National Guard.
Leo had been a resident of Milford MA since 2013 and prior to that had resided in Medway MA, Millis MA, Hyde Park MA & Brighton MA. Leo was an avid hockey player and had participated in numerous hockey leagues throughout his life.
Along with his beloved wife of 53 years, he is survived by his 2 daughters: Maryellen Kraus of Bedford NH and Stacey Shea, wife of Christopher Shea of Southborough MA; his 5 grandchildren: Molly Kraus and Sean Kraus of Bedford NH, Wyatt Shea, Quinn Shea & Josephine Shea of Southborough MA; his 4 siblings: Daniel Hughes of Boston MA, Arlene Lampkin of NH, Laura Loynd of Bellingham MA & Debra Wentworth of Bellingham MA; his brother-in-law: Myles Flaherty and his wife Nancy of Burlington MA; his sister-in-law: Nadine Flaherty of Dennis MA; also several nieces & nephews.
Leo was the father-in-law of the late Stephen Kraus & the brother-in-law of the late James Flaherty.
In accordance with his wishes cremation will take place. Relatives & friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on SATURDAY (July 1st) at 10am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 7 East Main Street, Milford MA. A Private Committal service of his cremains will be held at Rural Cemetery in Southborough MA at the convenience of the family. There are no funeral home visiting hours.
