Mrs. Linda S. (Sweeney) Wilde, 77, a longtime Framingham resident, passed away unexpectedly at Metro-West Medical Center in Framingham on April 12, 2021. Born in New York, she was the daughter of the late Francis “Frank” and the late Marie (Rosso) Sweeney. She grew up in Mendon MA, having moved there at the age of seven after her father was transferred to Milford MA from the Salem office of the former Massachusetts Electric Company. She was a graduate of Nipmuc Regional High School Class of 1961 and the widow of the late Dr. Anthony Wilde, who died in 2017.
Mrs. Wilde earned a Bachelor of Science degree Magna Cum Laude from Boston College in 1965 and a Master of Education degree from Worcester State College. She also completed additional graduate studies at Boston College. Linda enjoyed reading, theatre, traveling, swimming and sailing with family at Lake Bunggee in Woodstock CT and volunteering at Regis College.
She was employed as an English teacher at Nipmuc Regional High School in Upton for thirty-five years. She also served as an advisor to the school newspaper. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the Mendon Upton Regional Teachers Association.
Mrs. Wilde is survived by a brother, John F. Sweeney and his wife Claudia of Milford MA and a sister, Martha wife of Richard Grady of Mendon MA and a brother-in-law Richard C. Wilde and his wife Carla of Simsbury CT. She also leaves four nieces, Tara M. Sweeney and her husband Atty. Richard Bosch and Erin B. Sweeney, all of New York City NY, Colleen Caruso and her husband Kevin of Charlestown MA and Sarah Mary Doherty Amato and her husband Dr. Christopher Amato of Holliston MA and three nephews, Richard M. Grady and his wife Megan of Medway MA, Richard F. Wilde and Philip G. Wilde of Simsbury CT. Also surviving are her grandnieces and grandnephews Luke, Mary-Kate and James Grady, Edward, Lowell and Emilia Amato, and Colin and Lauren Wilde and many cousins, friends and supportive neighbors.
Due to the COVID-19 gathering restrictions and her family’s concern for the wellbeing of family members & friends cremation will take place according to her wishes. A Private Committal Service of her cremains will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no visiting hours. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA.
