Mary E. Burke, 94, of Milford MA and formerly of Boston MA died Tuesday (January 16, 2024) at Countryside Healthcare of Milford after a period of declining health.
Mary was born in New Bedford MA, the daughter of the late W. Kenneth Burke and the late Veronica C. (Corey) Burke. She attended Holy Family Grammar School and Holy Family High School in New Bedford MA. She also was a graduate of Simmons College and had attained training in Advanced Cytology at Yale University. Mary was a well educated woman who had a very successful career in the medical field. She had been employed as a cytologist at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston MA for over 30 years.
Mary had many varied interests. She was an avid reader, she loved classical music and loved attending the theatre. She also loved to travel and she appreciated fine wines.
Mary is survived by her sister: Kathleen C. Mello and her husband Thomas J. Mello of Milford MA; she was also the proud aunt of twenty nieces & nephews.
Mary was the sister of the late Edward Burke; the late Barbara Gillis; the late Richard Burke & the late William Burke.
In accordance with her wishes cremation will take place. A Private Graveside Committal Service will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Bedford MA at the convenience of the family. There are no funeral home visiting hours.
