Mary Ellen (O'Brien) Niro

Mrs. Mary E. (O’Brien) Niro, 83, of Milford MA, died Tuesday (March 30, 2021) at Countryside Healthcare of Milford after a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late Atty. Angelo Gene Niro, who died in 1982.

Mary was born in Milford MA, the daughter of the late Wallace and the late Alice (Keenan) O”Brien. She attended the former St. Mary’s Grammar School and was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1954.Later in life she attended Newbury College to become a paralegal.

Mary was first employed as a young woman as a telephone operator working for New England Telephone Company in the Milford office. After raising her family, she re-entered the work force, working as a real estate broker at the former Brustin Realty Company & the former Rainbow Realty, located in Milford MA.

Mary was known for her creativity, which caused her to be an avid reader, active with knitting & ceramics, and also proficient with graphic designs & calligraphy.

Mary is survived by her 4 children: Steven Niro of Portland ME, Gary Niro of Los Angeles CA, Michael Niro of Los Angeles CA and Lisa Dionne of Milford MA; 2 grandchildren: Jeffrey LeClaire of Cumberland RI and Brianna Dionne of Milford MA; 2 great grandchildren; her sister: Claire, wife of Harry Webber of Milford MA; and several nieces & nephews.

Mary was pre-deceased by her sister Maureen Cullen and her twin sister: Margaret Balmelli.

Her funeral will be held Saturday (April 3rd) at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Liturgy of the Word Service at 10am in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be held Friday (April 2nd) from 5pm to 7pm. Social distancing protocols & use of face masks will be required for all facets of the funeral services.
