Michael J. Brita, 81, of Holliston, formerly of Milford, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at the Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Sally A. (Foye) Brita.
Michael was born and raised in Milford, son of the late Joseph and Anna (Bonina) Brita and was a graduate of Milford High School class of 1960, where he served four years as class President. Mr. Brita was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he received a B.S. Degree. He went on and earned his Master’s Degree in Education at Framingham State College in 1970, and his C.A.E.S Degree in Education Leadership from Boston College in 1975.
Mr. Brita was a three-sport athlete at MHS where he played Baseball, Basketball and Co-Captained the Football Team. He was inducted into the MHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.
Mr. Brita retired from the Milford Public School System in 2001, where he served for 36 years, 25 of those years as Principal of the Stacy Middle School. While a teacher of Science and Mathematics, he also coached Baseball, Basketball and Football at Milford High School.He served for several years as a Town Meeting Member and a Library Trustee in the Town of Milford. Mr. Brita was a past Milford Citizen of the Year, a member of the Milford Plains Association, a lifelong member of the Massachusetts Teachers’ Association, the National Education Association, and a Communicant of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church of Milford, Massachusetts.
In recognition of the positive impact Mr. Brita has had on the educational community of Milford, the administrative wing of the Stacy Middle School is planned to be dedicated in his honor, and named accordingly, the Michael J. Brita Administrative Wing.
In addition to his devoted wife of forty-one years he is survived by his children: Kristina Mulcahy and her husband Paul of Franklin, Cynthia Felix and her husband David of Milford, and his step-sons John Tessicini and his wife Amy-Jo of Milford, David Tessicini and his wife Jennifer of Charlotte NC, one sister Salvina Eldridge and her husband Dennis of Mendon MA, seven grand-children: Kiara Spencer and her husband Jacob, David Felix, Madison and Colin Mulcahy, Gavin and Brady Tessicini, and Jaxon Tessicini. Also, great grandchildren Snow and Zephyr Spencer, and several nieces and nephews. Michael was predeceased in death by his brother Joseph Brita who passed away in 2009.
His funeral will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023 at 9:00 AM at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street in Milford MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 7 East Main Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford MA.
Visiting Hours will be held Thursday,August31, 2023 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford, MA.
