Michael Maietta Jr. Obituary

Mr. Michael A. Maietta Jr., 80, of Milford MA, died Saturday (July 2, 2022) at the Blaire House of Milford after a period of declining health.

 

Michael was born in Milford MA, the son of the late Michele A. Maietta and the late Mary C. (Tosches) Maietta. He attended Milford public schools.

 

Michael was first employed as a young man at the former Porter Shoe Company and the former Bickford Shoe Company, and then at the former Grant’s Store located in Milford MA. He then worked for many years as a custodian for the Town of Milford, working for the Milford Public Schools, the Milford Town Hall & the Milford Police Department. Following that, he was employed as a custodian for the Medway Public Schools, from which he retired.

 

Upon his retirement as a custodian at the Medway Public Schools he worked at the former Crivello’s Crossing located in Milford and also volunteered at the Milford Senior Center.

 

Michael was a lifelong resident of Milford MA and a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He also had volunteered for many years as a baseball coach for the Milford Little League, the Milford Babe Ruth League & at Milford High School. He also had served as a baseball umpire. Michael was an avid sports fan of all sports, especially the Boston sports teams.

 

In his younger days he enjoyed spending time at the Maietta’s King Neptune Hotel in Hampton Beach NH that his late brother, Nicholas Maietta, owned & operated.

 

Michael was also an avid woodworker and had a complete workshop in his basement where he made all kinds of wooden ornaments, wooden signs & other items, as well as bird houses, that he would donate to the schools and other organizations. Michael also loved playing “Keno” and playing his scratch tickets.

 

Michael was also big into music and was an accomplished drummer. He and his fellow musician friends would frequently hold “jam sessions” at his residence here in Milford and at the Maietta King Neptune Hotel in Hampton Beach NH. Michael’s home was also the gathering spot for the weekend long family poker games. But his favorite pastime was spending time with his beloved family members.

 

Michael is survived by his sister: Anne T. Maietta of Milford MA; his sister-in-law: Linda Maietta of Milford MA; also his many nieces & nephews: Debra Matos and her daughter Marissa Matos of Milford MA, Maureen Marchand, Linda Pray, Dianne Hoffmaster, Richard Brothers, Marc Maietta, Lucia Fulginiti, Vance Maietta, Brian Maietta, Michelle Crossen, Dennis Maietta and Victoria Houston. Michael is also survived by 25 other grandnieces & grandnephews.

 

Michael is also survived by 2 longtime friends who greatly assisted him in his later years: Paul Brogioli of Milford MA and his godson: Bunny Earl of Milford MA, along with his niece Debra Matos, who was his primary caregiver for the past three years.

 

Michael was the brother of the late Anthony Maietta; the late Marie Sproles; the late Nicholas Maietta; the late Josephine Sproles and the late Victor Maietta. He was also the uncle of the late Denise Brothers and the late David Sproles.

 

His funeral will be held Friday (July 8th) at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church (UPPER CHURCH), 7 East Main Street, Milford MA. In accordance with his wishes cremation will follow and a Committal Service of his cremains will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford MA on Friday (September 16th) at 8am in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday (July 7th) from 6pm to 8pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-9959.
