Michael Raymond Smith Jr.

Mr. Michael R. Smith Jr., 71, of Milford MA died Tuesday (April 30, 2024) at the Blackstone Valley Health & Rehabilitation in Whitinsville MA after a period of declining health.

Michael was born in Framingham MA, the son of the late Michael Raymond Smith and the late Louise (Arsenault) Smith. He attended the former St. Mary’s Grammar School in Milford MA and was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s Central Catholic High School, Class of 1970. He was also a graduate of the former Westfield State College, Class of 1974. He later attained his master’s degree in library science from Rutgers University.

Michael was first employed as a young man as a chef at Virginia Polytechnical Institute. He later worked as a librarian for many years at Rutgers University.

Michael was very proud of the fact that as a student at St. Mary’s Central Catholic High School he achieved the honor of being an Eagle Scout.  These last few years he was an active member of the church choir at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Hopkinton MA.

Michael is survived by his brother: Daniel Smith and his wife Patricia of Milford MA; his nieces: Danielle Smith of Milford MA & Camryn Pittman of Georgia; also his grandniece: Ella Scarlet Pittman of Georgia; also several cousins.

Michael was the brother of the late Jeanne F. Smith, who died in 2023

In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held FRIDAY (May 17th) at 4:00PM at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 61 Wood Street, Hopkinton MA. Visiting hours will be held THURSDAY (May 16th) from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA.
