Patricia Hanlon Obituary

Mrs. Patricia L. (Edmands) Hanlon, 83, of Mendon MA died Tuesday (May 23, 2023) at her residence. She was the beloved wife of the late William J. Hanlon Jr., who died in 1992.

Patricia was born in Milford MA, the daughter of the late William Russell Edmands and the late Anna Elizabeth (D’Orio) Edmands. She attended the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Grammar School as a young girl and was also a graduate of Milford High School. She was also a graduate of the Burbank Hospital School of Nursing in Fitchburg MA, Class of 1959.

Patricia went on to a valued career working as a registered nurse. She was first employed at the former Milford Hospital and then at Anchorage Hospital in Alaska, where her late husband served in the military. Following that she had been employed at the former Hopedale Garden Nursing Home; Blaire House of Milford and a second tour of duty at the former Hopedale Gardens Nursing Home.

Patricia resided in Milford MA as a young woman; then in Anchorage Alaska from 1962 to 1964. She returned to reside in Mendon MA from 1964 until her passing.

Patricia was a longtime communicant of the former St. Michael’s Church in Mendon MA. She had been active in the church teaching CCD; a member of the church’s Catholic Women’s  Club; and as organist at St. Michael’s Church. She also had volunteered as a 4-H Leader and as a Girl Scout Leader.

Patricia had also been active in the PTA of the Mendon/Upton School System; the Mendon Garden Club; the Square Dance Club; and an active member of the Mendon Senior Center where she loved to play cribbage, pitch & poker.

Patricia enjoyed knitting, sewing, crewel and making hooked rugs. But her favorite past time was spending time with her beloved family members doing “Girl’s Weekends” with her daughters & multiple vacations to Storyland and Santa’s Village with her grandchildren.

Patricia is survived by her 4 children: Beth Kaplan and her husband Robert Kaplan of Colorado Springs CO, Cindy Beaudin and her husband Briand Beaudin of Douglas MA, Joan Lapierre of Northbridge MA and William Joseph Hanlon III and his wife Lisa Hanlon of Pepperell MA; her 9 grandchildren: Zachary McLinden, Julia (McLinden) Smith, Jeffrey Kaplan, Jack Beaudin, Nicole Beaudin, Jacob Kaplan, Luke Kairit, William Joseph Hanlon IV and Rachael Hanlon; her 4 great grandchildren: Owen Wiseman, Jackson McLinden, Bennett Smith and Julian Smith; also several nieces & nephews.

Patricia was the sister of the late William Edmands.  

Funeral Services will be held Friday (May 26th) at 10am at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in North Purchase Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be held Thursday (May 25th) from 5pm to 7pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home.
