Paul Callahan Sr. Obituary

Mr. Paul F. Callahan Sr., 83, of Milford MA died Thursday (November 10, 2022) at the Milford Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was the beloved husband of Sheila (Rizzi) Callahan.

 

Paul was born in Milford MA, the son of the late Arthur Callahan and the late Katherine (Gleason) Callahan. He attended the former St. Mary’s Grammar School and was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s Central Catholic High School, Class of 1956. Later in life he attended Bentley College.

 

Paul was a proud member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard 181st Engineer Battalion serving from 1956 to 1966 as a Combat Demolition Specialist, attaining the rank of SFC. Paul was the recipient of the “Guardsman of the Year” Award from The Minute Man Chapter – Department of the US Army.

 

Paul was first employed at the former Draper Corporation located in Hopedale MA, working in the accounting department. He then was employed at Honeywell-Bull Information Systems in Billerica MA for 26 years. Lastly, he was employed at the Foxboro Company located in Foxboro MA for 13 years, retiring in 2007. While employed at Honeywell-Bull Corporation he also taught accounting classes to new staff members.

 

Paul was a longtime communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Milford MA and was an integral part of the parish serving as an acolyte & Eucharistic minister for over 40 years. He had also served on the committee that oversaw the merger of the former St. Mary’s parochial schools & the former Sacred Heart parochial schools into the Milford Catholic Elementary School. Paul served as Chairman of the Milford Catholic Elementary School Board for 5 years. Paul was also a longtime member of the St. Mary’s Church Parish Council and had served as Chairman for 5 years.

 

Paul was the recipient of The Mother Seton Award from the Catholic Diocese of Worcester. He also had volunteered as Cub Master for Pack #4 in Milford MA. He was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus Valencia Council and a member of the Milford Toastmasters.

 

Along with his beloved wife of 59 years, he is survived by his 4 children: Kelly A., wife of Mark A. Orlando of Westborough MA, Tracy L., wife of John Finnerty of Milford MA, Lisa M., wife of Keith Robinson of Middletown DE and Paul F. Callahan Jr. and his wife Shelli of Milford MA; his 9 grandchildren: Jessica Orlando, Kylie Finnerty, Alexa Robinson, Sheila Orlando, Jared Finnerty, Zane Robinson, Jayna Callahan, Kyra Robinson and Steven Callahan; his 4 siblings: Arthur Callahan and his wife Gayle of Chapel Hill NC, John Callahan and his wife Adele of Milford MA, Robert Callahan and his wife Vivian of Milford MA and Elaine Howland and her husband Ronald Howland of Milford MA; also many nieces & nephews.

 

His funeral will be held Wednesday (November 16th) at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow, with Military Honors, in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday (November 15th) from 5pm to 7pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home.
