Paul "Wally" Seaver

Mr. Paul F. “Wally” Seaver, 53, of Milford MA, died Tuesday (February 5, 2013) at his residence after a courageous battle with ALS. He was the beloved husband of Deborah L. (Maffia) Seaver.

Mr. Seaver was born in Worcester MA, the son of the late Atty. Thomas H. Seaver and the son of Mary Louise (Luby) Seaver. He attended the former St. Mary’s Grammar School and was a graduate of Milford High School, Class of 1977. He also attended Framingham State College.

Mr. Seaver was first employed as a young man at the former Seaver’s Express Company, located in Milford. He then was employed for many years as a dispatcher at Braun’s Express Company located in Hopedale MA. Finally, he was employed at EMC Corporation in Hopkinton MA from 1999 until his diagnosis in 2011.

Mr. Seaver was a lifelong resident of Milford and a communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Milford. He spent the majority of his life active in community activities such as participating in the Milford Community Use men’s basketball leagues and volunteering as a coach for numerous teams. Mr. Seaver was a past-member of the Hoboken Citizens Club of Milford.

Mr. Seaver began his coaching career serving as the Milford High School Junior Varsity basketball coach from 1983 to 1988. He then served as Franklin High School Varsity basketball coach from 1988 to 1999. He also served as the coach of the MetroWest Travel Team (Milford) for his sons, Paul and Daniel, from 1999 to 2008. Lastly, he served as the Wellesley High School Junior Varsity basketball coach during the 2010-2011 season.

Mr. Seaver served as the President of the Milford Amateur Basketball Association from 2001 to 2008.  He also served as the Chairman of the Milford Youth Center Commission from 2003 to present.

Mr. Seaver was the recipient of numerous awards over the course of his career, including the Emilio Diotalevi Memorial Award in 2012; the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Award as the South Boys Assistant Coach of the Year in 2011; the United Way Recognition Award in 2011; the Hockomock Coach of the Year Award (Woonsocket Call) for the 1993-1994 season and the 1996-1997 season; also the Hockomock League Boys Basketball Champions for the 1997-1998 season. The Milford Youth Center Gymnasium was also named “The Paul F. Seaver Gymnasium” in October of 2012.

Along with his beloved wife of twenty-seven years, he is survived by his 2 Sons: Paul M. Seaver and Daniel F. Seaver of Milford MA; his mother: Mary Louise (Luby) Seaver of Milford; his 8 Siblings: Suzanne McGohey of Hooksett NH, MaryEllen, wife of David Wade of San Diego CA, Thomas Seaver of Woonsocket RI, Nancy Kiernan of Arlington MA, John Seaver and his wife Melissa of Milford MA, James Seaver of Park City UT, Vincent Seaver and his wife Maggie of Rocky Hill CT and Christopher Seaver and his wife Kristin of West Hartford CT; many nieces and nephews; his Father and Mother-in-law: Frederick and Mary Maffia of Milford MA; and 2 Sisters-in-law: Lori Maffia of Upton MA and Lisa Bucchino of Mendon MA.

His funeral will be held Friday (February 8th)  at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in the Upper Church of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 7 East Main Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Milford MA. Visiting hours will be Thursday (Feb 7th) from  4pm to 7pm.
