Ralph Mastroianni Obituary

Ralph P. Mastroianni, 77, of Milford MA passed peacefully Sunday evening (May 16th 2021) at home with his wife Mary Ann, and his daughters Andréa and Mia by his side.

Ralph was born in Milford, the son of the late Dr. Nicholas A. and the late Mary K. (Connolly) Mastroianni. He attended Milford public schools, graduating from Milford High School, Class of 1961. He graduated from Williams College, with a BA in Art History in 1965, where he was a proud member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He later attained his Master’s degree in Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1972.

Ralph was an accomplished architect, who owned & operated Mastroianni Architects, located on Main Street in Milford for many years. He was a longtime member of the Milford Rotary Club, serving as Treasurer, and he loved to help plan and run their events. Ralph was also a US Navy veteran, having served during the Vietnam era.

Intelligent, funny, and unfailingly kind, Ralph was at his happiest surrounded by his family. His fondest memories included growing up with his siblings, Sunday dinners with the cousins, summers at the Cape, and family holidays. Christmas was his favorite holiday to host, always searching for the biggest tree, meticulously decorating it with ornaments collected and treasured throughout the years.

Ralph left his mark all over Massachusetts, in the buildings and homes he designed and helped restore. His favorite projects allowed him to research a building’s history, and then honor that history in his new design. You can see his work at the Faneuil Hall Marketplace, the Southwick Zoo, Milford Town Hall, and numerous private homes.

It is impossible to remember Ralph without mentioning “his Annie.” Married on May 28, 1967, Ralph and Mary Ann built a life together in Milford. They loved to travel, enjoyed the theatre, the symphony, and Boston Red Sox games at Fenway Park. Ralph loved being home with “his girls,” listening to show tunes and tending to his myriad of plants. He was famous for his shrimp scampi and his perfect gin and tonics. Ralph was devoted to his daughters, never missing an opportunity to see one of Andréa’s plays, or listening to Mia’s adventures from Miami, to LA, and her many travels abroad.

Along with his beloved wife of 54 years, he is survived by his devoted daughters: Andréa Mastroianni and her partner Joel Szlosek of Westminster, MA & Mia Mastroianni of Los Angeles, CA; his brother: Dr. Nicholas Mastroianni and his wife Charlotte of Milford; his 3 sisters: Mary, wife of Dr. Sam Calagione of Maine & Florida, Claudia, wife of John Sweeney of Milford, and Kathryn Mastroianni of Milford. He is also survived by extended family: his dear sister-in-law Kathleen O’Brien, and brother-in-law William O’Brien and his wife Ana Karina; also, many nieces & nephews, cousins, and friends. Ralph is preceded in death by his sister Roberta Mastroianni and his brother Paul Mastroianni.

In accordance with his wishes cremation will take place. Relatives & friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday (June 12th) at 12pm in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow, with Military Honors, in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Milford, MA. There are no calling hours.
