Mr. Richard D. Liberto, 85, of Whitinsville MA died Wednesday (September 4, 20024) at UMASS Medical Center in Worcester after an illness. He was the beloved husband of Carol Ann (Wallace) Liberto.
Richard was born in Milford MA, the son of the late Charles Liberto Sr. and the late Anne (Sainio) Liberto. He attended the former Sacred Heart Grammar School and was a graduate of Milford High School, Class of 1957.
Richard was first employed as a young man at the former Draper Corporation located in Hopedale MA. He then proudly served in the US Army for two years, from 1962 to 1964.
Following his tour of duty in the US Army Richard began his career of working for National Grid until his retirement in 1999. Later in his retirement years he was employed for the Town of Milford Board of Health, working at the town’s Transfer Station.
Richard had been a resident of Milford MA before moving to Whitinsville MA. He was a longtime member of the American Legion and a proud member of the Italian-American Veterans Post #40 of Milford. He was also a longtime member of the National Rifle Association.
Richard was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He also was an avid hunter. But his favorite past time was spending time with his beloved family members, especially with his 6 grandchildren.
Along with his beloved wife of 46 years, he is survived by his 3 Children: Jennifer E. Liberto & Todd Erickson of Upton MA, Benjamin E. Liberto and his wife Caitlin of Franklin MA and Nicholas Liberto and his wife Alanna of Medway MA; his 6 Grandchildren: Tegan Erickson, Charlotte Liberto, Andrew Richard Liberto, Harper Liberto, Sawyer Liberto and Quinn Liberto; also his brother: Charles Liberto and his wife Olga of Johnston RI; his sister: Mrs. Catherine Ahern of Natick MA; and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
Richard was the brother of the late Milford Police Chief Vincent Liberto and the uncle of the late Joel Liberto and the late Sean Ahern.
Richard’s family would like to thank the Northbridge Police Department & the Northbridge Fire Department, especially their EMT’s, for their assistance & compassion these past few months.
In accordance with the family's wishes cremation will take place. His funeral will be held TUESDAY (September 24th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 7 East Main Street, Milford MA. Visiting hours will be held TUESDAY (September 24th) from 8:30am to 10:30am at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, prior to his Funeral Mass.
