Richard James Luke

Mr. Richard J. Luke, 84, of Milford MA died Thursday (May 21, 2026) at the Lydia Taft House in Uxbridge MA after a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of the late Carol A. (Gary) Luke, who died in 2024.

Richard was born in Syracuse NY, the son of the late George A. Luke and the late Margaret C. (Mergardt) Luke. He received his bachelor’s degree from St. Bonaventure University.

Richard had been employed in the insurance industry for many years, working as an insurance adjuster. He had owned and operated his own insurance company.

Richard was an avid salt water fisherman and also loved tending to his own vegetable garden & flower garden. His favorite past time was spending time with his beloved family members, especially the Sunday dinners with the family.

Richard is survived by his 3 children: Michael Luke of Shrewsbury MA, Donna Pelletier of Milford MA and Christopher Luke and his wife Amy of Fairfax VT; his 6 grandchildren:  Jessica Mousseau and her husband Jay  of Milford MA, Ivy Krezinski and her husband Daniel of Isle La Motte VT, Sydney Luke and her wife Sarah of Rochester NY, Samantha Pelletier of New York City NY, Colton Luke and his fiancée Maygan of Georgia VT and Cameron Pelletier of North Kingstown RI; his 4 siblings: George M. Luke of Greenville SC, Kathryn McAninch of Waterloo Indiana, Ellen McGregor and her husband Richard of Westwood MA and Mary Fahle and her husband Robert of Apex NC; his brother-in-law: Howard Gary of Sacramento CA; his sister-in-law: Gwen Luke of Muskegon MI; also several nieces & nephews.

Richard was the brother of the late Peter C. Luke of Michigan; and the brother-in-law of the late Anne Luke of South Carolina and the late Jack McAninch of Waterloo Indiana.

A Private Funeral will be held Thursday (May 28th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA. Relatives & friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Milford MA. There are no funeral home visiting hours.
