Robert W. Bessette

Mr. Robert W. Bessette, 81, of Milford MA, died Wednesday (July 14, 2021) at the Milford Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was the beloved husband of Rosemary (Ottley) Bessette.

Robert was born in Boston MA, the son of the late Joseph A. and the late Evelyn (Pepin) Bessette. He attended Boston public schools, graduating from high school and then received his bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University, Class of 1972.

Robert had been employed for over 35 years at Polaroid Corporation, retiring as a senior buyer.

Robert was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Milford and had been a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, presently associated with the Valencia Council of St. Mary’s church. He had also been a member of several prayer groups over the years.

Robert was also a frequent visitor to the Milford Senior Center and was an avid cribbage player. He also loved to travel with his wife, especially on cruises and trips to Europe. He also loved to visit the St. Joseph Oratory  located in Montreal Canada, which was founded by Saint Andre Bessette, a distant relative.

Along with his beloved wife of 61 years, he is survived by his 5 children: Robert Bessette and his wife Diane, Rosemary Bessette Downing and her husband Terence Downing of East Taunton MA, Richard Gerard Bessette and his wife Janet of Medway MA, Raymond Joseph Bessette and his wife Sharon of Hubbardston MA and Roger William Bessette and his wife Ruby of San Pedro CA; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 sister: Adele Quintiliani of Weymouth MA; 2 sisters-in-law: Nancy Bessette of Randolph MA and Catherine Fitzgerald of Brockton MA; also several nieces & nephews.

Robert was the brother of the late Antoinette McDonald; the late Joseph Bessette; the late Andrew Bessette; the late Rita Guisti; the late Theresa Daley and the late Charles “Buzzy” Bessette.

His funeral will be held FRIDAY  (July 23rd) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway MA. A visiting hour will be held FRIDAY  (July 23rd) from 8:30am to 9:30am at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, prior to his Funeral Mass.
