Roland Barrett Obituary

 

Mr. Roland Marcel Barrett, 78, of Milford MA, died Sunday (December 6, 2020) at the Milford Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (Perry) Barrett and the beloved husband of the late Diane M. (Forand) Barrett, who died in 1988.

                           

Mr. Barrett was born in New Bedford MA, the son of the late Edward J. and the late Yvonne M. (Masse) Barrett. He attended St. Joseph’s parochial school in New Bedford MA and was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School, Class of 1960. He also attended Northeastern University.

 

Mr. Barrett was first employed as a young man as a repairman for eight years at Bay State Television Repair, located in New Bedford MA. He then began his long standing career working for Simplex Time Recorder Company, working at many of their locations, finally retiring as a manager, in 2008.

 

Mr. Barrett was a Viet Nam Era veteran having served in the US Army & the Massachusetts Army National Guard. He had been a resident of Milford MA since 1978 and prior to that had resided in Poughkeepsie NY, Freetown MA and New Bedford MA.

 

Mr. Barrett had been a longtime member of the Construction Specification Institute (CSI) serving as an emeritus member and past Treasurer. He was also a member of the DDIC investment club, where he presently served as Treasurer.

 

While residing in New York, he was vice president of the Dutchess Youth Hockey Association. In the 1960’s he served as president of the Acushnet Horsemen’s Association. He was also a member of the American Legion and had volunteered for the Town of Millville Cable Access Committee during his retirement years.

 

Mr. Barrett was an avid golfer and loved horses. He also loved to cook, but his favorite past- time was spending time with his beloved family members & friends.

 

Along with his beloved wife of twenty-four years, he is survived by his 4 children: Brenda, wife of Earl C. Wagner III of Douglas MA, Christine Penney of Milford MA, Roland P. Barrett and his wife Claudette of Millville MA and Sharon, wife of Geoffrey Richards of Orleans MA; 2 step-children: Melissa Bouvier of Cumberland RI and Jason Oliveira and his wife Jurgita of Arlington MA; 11 grandchildren: Ryan Wagner, Diane Dutile, Deanna Penney, Victoria Spulecki, Roland Barrett Jr., Bradley Richards, Kenneth Richards, Katrina Seyhan, Cole Henry Bouvier, Maia Oliveira, Romas Oliveira; 9 great grandchildren: Frederick Dutile V, Catherine Spulecki, Daniel Spulecki III, Alexis Richards, Abel Richards, Madison Lind, Emily Lind, Olivia Lind and Brayden Richards; 7 siblings: Jeanine Sasseville, James Barrett, Rene Barrett, Claire Tellier, Celeste Paleologus, Edward Barrett and Charles Barrett; also many nieces & nephews.

 

Mr. Barrett was the brother of the late Richard Barrett and the late Marc Barrett.

 

 

His funeral will be held Thursday (December 10th)  at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a  Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday (December 9th) from  5pm to 7pm. Social distancing protocols & use of face masks will be required for all facets of the funeral services.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to  the Milford Regional Medical Center, c/o the Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation, 14 Prospect Street, Milford MA 01757       or to     The St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church Renovation Fund, c/o St. Mary’s Church Offices, 17 Winter Street, Milford MA 01757.
