Mr. Ronald N. Benoit Sr., 90, of Mendon MA died unexpectedly on Saturday (July 8, 2023) at his residence. He was the beloved husband of the late Louisa A. (Murphy) Benoit who died in 2008.
Ronald was born in Milford MA, the son of the late Edmond Benoit and the late Lucienne (Arguin Benoit. He attended public schools in Mendon MA as a young boy and was first employed on the family farm located in Upton MA.
Ronald was a Korean Conflict veteran having served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1955. After his honorable discharge from the US Navy he was employed at the former Milford Shoe Company. He then became a self-employed carpenter, working in construction for many years. He also had been employed at the Mason Pool Company, located in Grafton MA. Mr. Benoit had also been a longtime member of the Millville Fire Department.
Ronald had been a longtime member of the American Legion Post in Millville MA and the VFW Post in Upton MA. He was also a member of the Millville Lions Club.
Ronald loved playing cribbage and was an avid bowler. He was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox & the NE Patriots. He was an avid collector of baseball cards & sports memorabilia. But his favorite past time was spending time with his beloved family members, especially preparing Sunday dinner for his family.
Ronald is survived by his 7 children: Stephen P. Benoit and his companion Patricia Lesperance of Uxbridge MA, Ronald N. Benoit Jr. and his wife Walinda of Norwich CT, Denise L. Benjamin of Millville MA, Cheryl A. Bell and her husband Dennis of Andover MA, Deborah L. Ruth and her husband Al of Whitinsville MA, Paula Simonsen and her companion William Bradley of Woonsocket RI and Sandra Choiniere and her husband Brian of Pascoag RI; his 10 grandchildren: Jessica Benjamin, Shana Baima, Laura Chadwick, Stephanie Benoit, Trevor Benoit, Kimberly Simonsen, Sydney Lariviere, Jordan Lariviere, Ronald Benoit and Guadamary Benoit; his 9 great grandchildren: Allie, Emilee, Shyanne, Alex, Olivia, Hunter, Cora, Lane and Evan; his 4 siblings: Charlotte Ethier of Vero Beach FL, Jacqueline Kollett and her husband Gordon of Uxbridge MA, Eva Bolack and her husband Francis of Grafton MA and Delina Cabral of Oklahoma; also many nieces & nephews.
Ronald was the brother of the late Leo Benoit and the late Rita Thompson. He was also the father-in-law of the late Linda Benoit.
His funeral will be held Monday (July 17th) at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be held Sunday (July 16th) from 5pm to 7pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home.
