Tom Davey was born in Philadelphia, PA. As the child of a military family, he lived in several states, including Hawaii, and was residing on Ford Island in Pearl Harbor during the attack on December 7, 1941.
In 1951, Tom graduated from N. Kingstown High School in Wickford, RI. He served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict as an airborne radar operator. Upon completion of his naval service, he entered the University of Rhode Island and earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1961. He was employed by New England Electric Company where he worked in System Operations for 32 years.
Following his retirement in 1993, he shared his Pearl Harbor experiences with local schools and civic organizations each year and was often featured in the Milford Daily News. Tom was on the Central One Federal Credit Union board of directors for many years beginning in 1981. He was an officer of the Italian American War Vets Post 40 in Milford and a former president of their bocce league. He was a long-time parishioner at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church in Milford where he served as an usher.
Tom enjoyed traveling in his life with his favorite destinations being Hawaii, Virginia Beach, the Outer Banks, Washington DC, and Europe. He cherished his time at the family lake house in Sterling, MA where he spent many hours out on his Sailfish sailboat. He had many interests and hobbies including golfing, reading, spending time at Scarborough beach, visiting Schartner Farms, eating quahogs, hanging out with his many friends at the Italian Vets and enjoying time with his family. He was also a big sports fan of the local pro teams and NASCAR.
He is survived by his four children: Sheree Beissner and her husband Fred of Attleboro, MA; Thomas J. Davey of Fort Pierce, FL; Michael Davey of Milford, MA; and Erin Foster of Three Rivers, MA. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Eric Beissner and his wife Hannah of Franklin, MA, and David Beissner of Attleboro, MA.
He is additionally survived by his brother, John Davey and his wife Barbara of Virginia Beach, VA.He was predeceased by his parents, Catherine (Timpane) and Admiral Thomas Leo Davey; his brother, James Davey and his wife Connie; his sister, Catherine; and his former wife and close friend, Nancy (Schartner) Davey.
Tom leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and in-laws from both the Davey and Schartner families, each of whom he adored.
Relatives & friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church (LOWER CHURCH), 19 Winter Street, Milford MA, 01757 on Wednesday, May 28th at 10am. A Graveside Committal Service, with Military Honors, will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Cedar Street in Milford, MA. Calling hours will be from 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday, May 27th at Edwards Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA.
