Thomas A. Smith Jr.

Mr. Thomas Arthur Smith Jr., age 49, of Milford, MA passed away at his home on Saturday, July 10, 2021 after a short battle with cancer surrounded by his family.

Tom was a 1990 graduate of Gardiner Area High School (ME) and later attended Merrimack College in North Andover, MA. As an avid athlete, he thrived playing football, basketball, and track. Tom was a member of the business and French clubs but was most proud earning his coveted position with the National Honor Society. While Tom enjoyed bowling competitively in various leagues as an adult, he found his greatest pleasure in coaching youth bowlers and cheering on his son Jason. 

Tom was an ardent foodie who found immeasurable pleasure in seeking out and planning dinners with special friends. Whether it was an hour drive to find great barbecue or the local pizza shop where everyone knew his name. Tom’s smile and energy could light up a room. He always eagerly awaited the poker parties that lasted well into the night – even when he lost. 

Tom would give his last dime and the shirt off of his back. He was quick to volunteer when a friend was in need – moving, painting, or watching the kids so their parents could have a much needed break. Tom was proud and eager to help for any fundraising event Marsha had organized, but perhaps Tom’s best known trait was his ability to be remarkably punctual to anything.  30 minutes early was often at least 10 minutes later than he had planned on being there.

Tom’s passion for customer service and helping people was evident in every job he held. A few short months before his passing, Tom accepted the position of Technical Support Analyst with Precision Digital in Hopkinton, MA. Ever nervous about each new hurdle, he continuously surpassed expectations and flourished in what turned out to be his dream job.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents Thomas Arthur Smith, Sr. and Yumiko (Sakaguchi) Smith. Tom is survived by his greatest loves - his wife Marsha (Langille) Smith and their son Jason Michael Stephen Smith of Milford, MA. He is also survived by his siblings Terri Smith of New Hampshire, Michael Smith of Maine, several nieces and nephews, and countless friends that he considered his family.

At Tom’s request a memorial service will be held at their home in Milford at a date to be determined. The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful help and care given by Kindred Hospice and the 4th floor nurses and staff at Milford Regional Hospital.
