Yong Hui (Somoon) O'Neill

Mrs. Yong Hui (Somoon) O’Neill, 79, of Brookfield MA and formerly of Milford MA, died Friday evening (January 1, 2021) at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge MA as a result of complications from COVID-19. She was the beloved wife of Terrence J. O’Neill.

Mrs. O’Neill was born in Hapcheon County, South Korea, the daughter of the late Jae-Yong Somoon and the late Dae-Soon (Jang) Somoon. She attended school in South Korea as a young girl, graduating from high school.

Mrs. O’Neill was first employed as a young woman at the former Archer Rubber Company located in Milford MA. She later worked at the Dennison Manufacturing Company located in Framingham MA and then finally at the Marriot Hotel located in Milford MA.

Mrs. O’Neill has been a resident of Brookfield MA since 2016 and prior to that had resided most of her life in Milford MA.

Mrs. O’Neill loved to play Bingo and loved to cook. She also loved spending time with her fellow Korean female friends when they would play Korean card games & practice their Korean culture.

Along with her beloved husband of 50 years, she is survived by her 3 children: Young Hyo O’Neill and his wife Bousay of Burriville RI, Elizabeth May and her husband Christopher May of Brookfield MA and Joseph O’Neill of Bellingham MA; her 5 grandchildren: Michael O’Neill, Brandon O’Neill, Ethan May, Colby O’Neill and Skylar O’Neill; her great granddaughter: Analyse O’Neill; her 5 siblings: Bok Sun Kim, Duk Soon Somoon, Woen Jin Somoon, Woen Sik Somoon and Myong Hui Ha; also many nieces & nephews.

Mrs. O’Neill was the sister of the late Woen Somoon.

In accordance with her wishes cremation will take place. Due to the COVID-19 gathering restrictions and the family’s concern for the wellbeing of family members & friends a Private Committal Service will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne MA at the convenience of the family. There are no visiting hours.Social distancing protocols & use of face masks will be required for all facets of the funeral services.
