I first met Al at the Grafton Flea Market. I worked in the concession stand with him for several seasons. I made a lot of new friends there and Al was nothing but good to me. I started helping around his house as well. I would mow his lawn with the electric lawn mower he kept in the shed, help him with the gardening, spreading mulch, taking down an old fence... anything he needed I was happy to help with. Some days we would just get in his truck and drive around Milford. We would stop at what seemed like every business is town and I swear he must have known everyone. I met a ton of new people through Al. It was a great time in my life. Things didnt always go perfectly... one time I was helping cut down a very large branch that was hanging low over his driveway. Long story short I nearly took off my index finger with the chainsaw. Al had just had shoulder surgery so I had to drive myself to the hospital. Al also had the largest collection of Red Sox memorabilia I had ever seen and I went to many games thanks to him. There are a million more memories I could share but I am sure I have rambled on too long already. The last time I saw Al was at my wedding in 2007. I was happy he was able to attend. He was a big part of my life for so long. Life got busy with marriage and kids and such.... I wish I had more time to spend with him in recent years. I knew his health was declining but I wasnt aware he had passed until this morning. He will be missed and I wish all the best to Josie and the rest of his family.

I was going to post as Mel Rota, Jr but a part of what I am writing is also coming from my Dad. Al, you were a great friend to my Mom and Dad. You were always there by my Dad's side in scouting. When Dad died at 62 years old, you were there for Mom. We were all very grateful for the support you gave her. I will always remember your smile and kind words. You sold me my first car for $75 ... I know you paid more for it and I hope the joy you brought to my face made up for the loss! Thank you for being a great human being!... Mel ... (both of us!)

Lenny, Chicky & families,
So sorry to hear about your dad. Recently I had come across a picture of our dads when we were in cub scouts. Pictured are both our dads, along with the dads of Dennis DeSantis, Peter Curley, Ed Armenio, & JoAnne Cistoldi. They were singing from the Cub Scout Songbook. I look at it often & "remember when".
Those were the " good old days" & fortunately or unfortunately time passes on.
My heartfelt condolences to all

I will always remember the good times we had at the Red Sox games and his help with putting up campaign signs for me. We appreciate Al and Josie attending our wedding and selling stag tickets for my bachelor party to all the town officials. Thanks Al-it was a great time. We will miss you !

As dealers at the Grafton Flea Market for many years we knew Al.
He was a great guy, and has been missed.

I was saddened to hear of Al's passing. So many memories of my childhood are of my parents many Boy Scout friends who became our extended family. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. I know Al is up there sitting around a campfire along with all those other scouters exchanging stories.

To Josie and Family
I am so sorry for your loss. As you know, Al and I have known each other for many years. Not only did he operate the concession stand at the Grafton Flea Market for me for over 40 years, he assisted me in so many other ways that are to numerous to mention. But more than our relationship at the flea market, he became one of my closest friends and will always have a place in my heart. I will remember the many chats we had over coffee. I will remember the exciting and fun vacation times we had together. I will remember the many Red Sox games that we went to with all its highs and lows. But the most thing that I will always remember is your sincere friendship. I know someday we will all meet again.

Chicky. Can't say enough about your dad. It started with my mom and all those fun years in cub scouts. They couldn't get rid of me. I was there to enjoy it all. I wish I knew the names your dad gave all the leaders. Some Indian names they thought up. The friendship they had was forever. And there I was sitting with him for the Olympics. I missed those days with him. The love and pride in our parents were rare and hopefully we can carry on that tradition to our children.

They were there for each other for anything. I know it was hard. My love and condolences to you and your family. Please give him a kiss for me. He will be joining all the other great Cub Scout leaders and will be swapping a lot of stories
Love ya, Susie

I remember Mr. DeGeorge going back to my boy scout days in the early 60's. He was a great human being who I personally admired for his unconditional giving. A great man is gone and I will forever remember him. May God bless his family. May the lord prepare your place in heaven. R.I.P.
