Rita L. Pessotti

Miss Rita L. Pessotti, 91, of Brewster MA and formerly of Milford MA, died Thursday (December 1, 2016) at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis MA after a period of declining health.

Miss Pessotti was born in Milford MA, the daughter of the late Peter and the late Emma (Mainini) Pessotti. She attended Milford public schools and was a graduate of Milford High School and also a graduate of Simmons College in Boston MA.

Miss Pessotti was first employed as a young woman from 1946 to 1947 as a lab technician at Harvard Medical School.  From 1947 to 1951 she worked as a research assistant at the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans LA. In 1951 she moved to San Francisco CA to work at the Radiological Defense Laboratory based at Hunter’s Point Naval Shipyard. After the shipyard closed in 1969 she returned to the East coast to work at the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland. From there she went on to work for the Federal Drug Administration, retiring in the early 1990’s.

Miss Pessotti was a member of the Sky Club-Alumnae Association of Simmons College and was a longtime member of the American Chemical Society. She had resided in Brewster MA since March of 2016.

Miss Pessotti is survived by several nieces, nephews & cousins including Emily Pessotti of West Dennis MA, Peter Pessotti and his wife Francesca of Milford MA, Joseph Pessotti of Hopedale MA and Richard Pessotti of Chicago IL.

Miss Pessotti was the sister of the late Joseph Pessotti and the late Francis Pessotti.

Her funeral services will be held Wednesday (December 7th) at 10am at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford MA. A visiting hour will be held Wednesday (December 7th) from 9am to 10am, prior to her funeral service.
